Today, 4th of October, is World Animal Day. A day to celebrate animals that enrich our lives. It gives us an opportunity to voice against inhuman treatment to animals and make certain their protection.

All animals are vital to sustain the earth being healthy. Ocean plays an important role in sustainability because more than 70% of oxygen is generated from there. Marine animals are essential for circulating marine ecosystem. This further impact on our long-term survival. However, a lot of marine animals such as dolphins, whales and sharks have threatened their lives as they are being considered as disposable commodities. People use them for profit and entertainment.

Many countries allow the captivity of dolphins and whales. However, it seems to face the changes. Thankfully, activists’ active works increase the awareness of the issue among politicians and general populations. The Canadian Senate has an “Ending the Captivity of Whales and Dolphins Act” going through committee.

For this supply, every September, brutal dolphin slaughters start in Taiji, Japan. Yet, this is not the sole place of slaughters. These happen over the world. The dolphins captured by fisher are sold to aquariums. Even though the International Whaling Commission declared to ban whaling but some countries such as Japan continue it. They are justifying that it is for research.

What can assist and boost to keep this going? Your action. It’s up to you! Raise your voice as sending your local government representatives a message that you stand up for animals. Avoid consuming exploitative animal products. Boycott zoos, aquariums and animal shows like dolphin shows. Spread the word to your friends and family and lead them to take a step forward for animals such as speaking out against the brutal dolphin hunts.

As celebrating World Animal Day, we need to stand up for the rights of dolphins as well as other animals and protect the ecosystem. Hopefully, this is a good opportunity to think about them.
